Donald Schetter Obituary

Donald C. Schetter

Donald passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at the age of 90. He was born January 5, 1934 in Milwaukee, WI; the son of Clarence and Irene Schetter. He met his wife, Arlene E. Schemm, on her church’s steps; a blind date set up by her friends. They married there on February 4, 1956. They would have celebrated 60 years together before Arlene’s passing in 2017. They were joined by two daughters, Donell Schetter and Kim (Jim) Sizer.

Don had a variety of jobs during his lifetime: owned a floral shop in Milwaukee, car salesman, variety of maintenance positions, real estate broker, plus delivering the Jefferson Daily County Union for many years after retirement. He was a jack of all trades (carpentry, plumbing, electrical, masonry, etc.), with many many projects done for and on his daughter’s farms. He also enjoyed hunting, skeet and trap shooting, and going out to eat, especially for breakfast and Friday night fish fries.

He was a long time member of the Wisconsin Walking Horse Association, showing his and his daughter’s horses for many years. His frequent blue ribbon winner was Kim’s mare, Hand Paint’D Lady. Don loved all the family’s “critterkids” and could often be seen sitting outside on a bench with either a dog or cat for company.

Family was everything to Don (and Arlene), and not all were related by blood. In addition to his daughters and son-in-law, he is survived by numerous grandchildren: Jerrod, Tammy, and Sheila. Great grandchildren include: Andria (Todd), Kayla, Shelby (Jake), Lester (Casey), Lucius, Joplin, Wyatt, Elleanna, and Annika. With great great grandchildren being:  Chevelle, Nova, Kayden, Buck, Allen, and Gracelyn.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Arlene, and grandsons Jason Madison and Andy Sizer.

The family would like to thank Ann Noltner, staff and residents at Lake Mills’ Timberwood Lodge and Rainbow Hospice and Palliative Care teams for the friendship and care they showed dad.

Memorial suggestions include the Humane Society of Jefferson County, your favorite animal group, or charity.

Don’s cremated remails will be buried at Union Cemetery in Jefferson at a later date.
